President's Letter

Letter from the President

Fellow CFSD Parents,

I am honored to be serving as the CFSD Foundation’s Board President for the 2023-24 school year.  As a lawyer who received a strong public-school education, I wish the same for my daughter, a CFSD 8th grader.  Since the day she started kindergarten at Ventana Vista, I began to volunteer with the FFO (Family Faculty Organization) as well as the Foundation.  I’ve witnessed firsthand the power of great teachers, and I am continually in awe of the positive impact our teachers have on CFSD students.  Our children are fortunate to attend school in a district that places such importance on employing high caliber teachers.

While our FFOs focus on specialized needs at their individual campuses, the Foundation works diligently to raise supplemental funds to attract the best teachers to the district and assist in their development; which in turn strengthens teacher retention.  Cuts in the state’s education budget have eliminated funds for teacher professional development. Nationwide, teacher shortages continue to be reported, and Arizona is not immune to this trend. We at the Foundation are determined to support CFSD teachers to the greatest extent possible.

Our goal for the 2023-24 school year is to raise $150,000, which contributes to the cost of Great Beginnings, a three-year mentoring and development program for new CFSD teachers at every grade level.  Research shows that effective, subject-focused professional development leads to better student outcomes.  Funding such programs is a win-win for our CFSD teachers and students.  Donations of any amount will help us reach our goal, and how fantastic would it be if we could exceed it!

The CFSD Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, run entirely by parent and community volunteers.  We keep our administrative costs low so that nearly 100% of your donation goes to supporting our teachers.  You can donate securely online here.  Your donation is tax-deductible and may even be eligible for a matching gift from your employer.

Thank you for being a part of the CFSD community and contributing to our students’ success.  Our school district will continue to be one of the best in the state if there is collaboration between families, teachers, and school leaders.  Here’s to a fantastic year of our students learning, growing, and thriving at CFSD!

Warmly,

Lori Lundberg-Leung
